上任前一週，為了順利交接，市政各局處來柯辦簡報業務，在忙碌的行程中，他硬是騰出半小時接受清華大學生醫工程與環境科學系大四學生的課堂作業訪問。
問及他對成功的定義，柯文哲說，「成功就是Do right things. 和 Do things right. 在台灣這個多元社會，成功定義自己下，要為自己而活。」
柯文哲是天子驕子，聰明又會念書，想不到大學聯考卻沒考上他的第一志願台大醫學系，遭遇人生第一個挫折。
哪年大學聯考的數學題目有史以來最難，他看到題目有些驚慌失措，表現失常，差3分進不了台大醫學系。收到成績單後，他有半個月以淚洗面。大二重考，終於進入台大醫學系，大學也念了9年才畢業。
「人生最困難的不是挫折打擊，而是面臨各種挫折困難，仍沒有失去對人世的熱情。挫折是人生一部分，過一段時間再看，好像也沒那麼嚴重。」他說。
柯文哲博學強記，大學時他讀到一段經典名言，至今也奉為人生圭臬。
「人生有4種境界：把自己當自己，是自在；把自己當別人，是無我；把別人當自己，是博愛；把別人當別人，是智慧。」頗富哲理。
2011年台大醫院發生愛滋病患器官誤植事件，讓只是負責建置器官登錄制度，並未參與開刀、驗證過程的他，被衛生署和監察院調查，他的頭髮在4天內白了一半，這個意外讓他的人生大轉折。
柯文哲說，一般人遇到挫折，會出現4種反應：懷憂喪志、憤世嫉俗、走火入魔和面對人生。

不過，潛意識裡的驕傲心態，又常不免流露出來，他說自己「貢高我慢」，對台灣醫學界的貢獻高，不免有些傲慢，有時候捉老鼠的本性就會跑出來。
對於人生的得失，一天平均工作16小時的柯文哲坦承，很少參與三個孩子的童年與成長；尤其是個性和他最像的大女兒，因為被他打過，父女兩人至今仍有些心結未解。
而如果人生可以從來，他會做不同的選擇嗎？
「不用回頭看，何必看不能改變的事實，人生只能活一次。」

他要清大學生回去看看他在TED的18分鐘演講。演講中他說，他應是台灣看過最多死亡的醫生，醫學是有極限的，即使醫療科技如此進步，也不能改變生老病死。
經常思索「怎麼樣才是活著？」的他，對這個深沉的大哉問，有一個頗富哲學意味的答案，「追求這個問題的答案，就是問題的答案。」

7.在你出生之前，你的父母並不像現在這般無趣，他們變成現在這樣是因為忙著付你的開銷，清洗你的衣服、聽你吹噓你有多了不起。所以在你拯救被父母這代人破壞的熱帶雨林之前，先整理一下自己的態度。
8.學校裡可能有贏家有輸家，人生路上卻還言之過早。學校會不斷給你機會，真實人生中卻完全不是這麼回事。
9.人生沒有寒暑假。人生不是學期制，沒有哪個雇主有興趣幫你尋找自我，請用自己的時間來做這件事。
10.電視上演的並非真實人生。現實生活中每人都要離開咖啡館去創業。

To anyone with kids of any age, here's some advice. Bill Gates recently gave a speech at a High School about 11 things they did not and will not learn in school. He talks about how feel-good, politically correct teachings created a generation of kids with no concept of reality and how this concept set them up for failure in the real world.
Rule 1: Life is not fair -- get used to it!
Rule 2: The world won't care about your self-esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.
Rule 3: You will NOT make $60,000 a year right out of high school. You won't be a vice-president with a car phone until you earn both.
Rule 4: If you think your teacher is tough, wait till you get a boss.
Rule 5: Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your Grandparents had a different word for burger flipping -- they called it opportunity.
Rule 6: If you mess up, it's not your parents' fault, so don't whine about your mistakes, learn from them.
Rule 7: Before you were born, your parents weren't as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes and listening to you talk about how cool you thought you are. So before you save the rain forest from the parasites of your parent's generation, try delousing the closet in your own room.
Rule 8: Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life HAS NOT. In some schools they have abolished failing grades and they'll give you as MANY TIMES as you want to get the right answer. This doesn't bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.
Rule 9: Life is not divided into semesters. You don't get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you FIND YOURSELF. Do that on your own time.
Rule 10: Television is NOT real life. In real life people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.
Rule 11: Be nice to nerds. Chances are you'll end up working for one.

學習觀
談學習觀，我不想在技術層次打轉。讓我們在制高點上分析。求深還是求廣？胡
適先生說：「為學當如金字塔，要能廣來要能深」。但我們俱足凡夫，如何能夠
又深又廣？
我比較追求「深」，我認為深比廣更需要優先面對。曾有一位同事，聲稱精通十
數種程式語言，我對他感到一種不可侵犯的神聖，在工作上只敢保持遠觀距離 。
夠深，你才能（就能）觸類旁通。技術都有累積性、延續性，你夠深，應變能力
就夠強。
求變還是求定？我比較追求「定」。社會進步到一個相當程度，一定分工很細，
而先進社會所需要的人才，也一定是很細緻的人才。沒有定的功夫，很難成為細
緻人才。日本人在這方面很典型。《大學》裡頭說「知止而後有定，定而後能靜，
靜而後能安，安而後能慮，慮而後能得」，又說「物有本末，事有始終，知所先
後，則近道矣」。如果我們不知道物與事的本末和始終，不求定、不求深，那就
難以近道。
人在追求技術成長時當然必須同時保持對業界的敏感嗅覺；只是別太敏感，別一
有風吹草動就見風轉舵，要知道，滾石不生苔，轉業不聚財。
前數期《商業周刊》報導了 Acer 新任總經理，意大利人蘭奇。我不是要和大家分
享這個人的故事，而是要分享他說的這句好話：No magic, just basic。在技術市場，
你有你的深耕技術，個人才有價值。不擔心層出不窮的新技術會淹沒,
因為有深厚基礎，觸類旁通快得很！

0. 如果想要幸福, 則要先從最不想作的事情開始.
1. 如果有辦法的話, 先把事情集中火力,一次完成. (不要分批完成)
2. 面對問題, 先把最重要的事情完成
- 把電視關掉, 設定警戒線
- 把自己關起來, 不講話
3. 不要太貪心想要做所有的事, 專注做一件事
- 把臨時想要做的事情, 先寫下來
- 並不是你做不到, 只是我們要從最有績效的地方開始著手.
4. 累積痛苦, 感受快樂
5. 音樂可以讓自己分心, 可以在開始工作時使用
6. 看論文時, 就應該把電腦拿出來做筆記
7. 遇到問題是好事, 這樣就會有題材可以發表!
- 思考的方向, 應該要以找問題為主.
8. 隨時要處於戒慎恐懼的情況
- 隨時要對問題, 有所掌握. 對需要的技能作系統的分析.
- 跟世界上那些高手比起來, 你差的遠呢 !!
